If you are an avid or have been an avid home or resort guest of a resort or hotel, you know how important it is to display your hospitality through a well-designed lectern. Not only can you add personality to your style and your hotel or resort but you will also save yourself and your pocket book a lot of money by displaying your gifts and souvenirs in a way that will make a statement. A lectern is not as difficult to create or produce as you may think. Here is how to make a lectern for your resort or hotel:
First, you will need a large enough table for the length of the lectern – which is between eight and ten feet tall. This height will be dependent on the length of your lectern and any other accompanying furnishings, such as lecterns, podiums or bookcases. The width should be between six and nine inches. If you are uncertain about which measurements to take for your purposes consult with a home or resort interior decorator. They will help you coordinate the decorating style with the size of your lectern so that you do not have to worry that your design will not be compatible.
The first step in how to make a lectern is to assemble the following pieces: two long, three wooden slabs, one flat board, one wall mount lath and one flat board to support the lectern. Once all of these pieces are assembled, you should be able to slide the flat board against one wall and secure it with one screw and a washer. After this is done the flat board can be slid along the wall to create a support foundation for your lectern.
Next, you will need two small long pieces of board for the lectern’s lectern top – These pieces should be glued onto the long slabs to make a shelf that will hold the lectern in place when it is not in use. Once the board is in place, you will want to attach a flat wooden dowel to the front of the lectern and a wall mount lath to the back. These two should be secured with screws and washers and then you should be ready to install the energizing contraptions.
Finally, you will assemble the fourth wooden slab – This should slide easily into the previous pieces. Once this is done you can begin putting the four wooden slabs together. When putting the slabs together, it is important to use lots of glue. This will make the pieces stay together better and will ensure that the lectern will last for many years to come.
With the four wooden slabs in place and the glue – on them it is time to put the first row of bookshelves. Use the flat dowels to anchor each shelf but do not nail them down yet. Glue the bottom of the first row to the ground. The bookshelf will be ready for the lectern as soon as the bottom plates are placed.
With the glue on the last three slabs it is time to put all the four together and finish the project.
